Mission to Congress

The Center for Christian Statesmanship (www.statesman.org) is a non-partisan, non-political ministry reaching out with the Good News of Jesus Christ to the men and women who work on Capitol Hill.

With a beautiful 19th century townhouse as its home base, just three minutes walk from the Congressional buildings, the ministry is perfectly situated to host bible studies, receptions and lunches for elected representatives, their staff and interns. (photos of Hospitality House and luncheon).

Accommodations:

You will enjoy being the guest of Dr. George Roller, Director of the Center, and his most gracious wife, Linda, in their lovely home in Manassas, Virginia.  This is more than a home away from home!  It is a special treat to be a part of their family for a week.

Transportation:
Make your own travel arrangements to Washington (Dulles Airport) – we will pick you up there and take care of getting you where you need to go.

Physical Requirements:
You will be “on the go” a lot during this trip – walking around the city and within the congressional buildings, climbing steps and walking uphill.  So, you need to be in good enough health to withstand the DC summer heat and to do a lot of walking.

Dress Code:

When we are sight-seeing or training at home, casual dress is fine.  However, it is essential that when we are working with the congressional staff, visiting their offices or attending events with them, that proper business attire is worn.  Generally, a suit is preferred for everyone; at very least, dress pants, dress shirt, tie and jacket for men; for women a businesslike dress or skirt with a jacket. Please check for modesty – at the neckline and hemline. Appropriate footwear is required for everyone.

Cost:
The price of $470 will cover your accommodations, meals, training materials, transportation and group activities. Most of your meals are included in the schedule.  When you have free time to explore, you will need to pay for your own food, drinks, entrance fees, etc.

As this is a mission trip, you may ask friends and relatives to help you raise the funds. You may be able to do this through your local church – ask your pastor if he will allow you to do that. Be sure to add in the cost of your airfare, transportation to and from the airport at your end and miscellaneous expenses you may need to cover. If you need assistance, just let us know and we will help figure out how much you need and assist you in writing a letter that will explain your request.

You may register for the trip now and then send in a check for the full amount when you have collected it. We will need to have that no later than June 5.
